Inspector Ike Movie Poster

What could have been relegated to a 15-minute Saturday Night Live sketch was instead morphed into a charming spoof-like murder “mystery” of the week. Presented as if an ongoing daytime detective show (complete with a special chili recipe), this movie has jokes, spoofs and about the dryest humor I have ever come across. For me, it totally worked. Bring on another Inspector Ike. No, seriously, please do.

While most may not recognize the cast, all the players are good, including the bit roles which make up most of the work. The titled Inspector Ike features a smooth and methodical investigator, and Ufomadu plays the part with excellent subtleties.

Similar to many comedies, this movie will not work for everyone as some will find the humor far too dry. That being said, it is short and to the point, and I found myself thinking about it a lot during the following weeks after viewing it. Get your recipe cards ready!
