Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls – 2023 – Comedy, Fantasy, Horror
Directed by: Andrew Bowser
Written by: Andrew Bowser
Main Players: Andrew Bowser; Melanie Chandra; Arden Myrin; Jeffrey Combs

Our hero Onyx the Fortuitous, aka Marcus Trillbury (Bowser), works at Marty’s Meat Hut. He is lost in an endless cycle of low wages, self-pity, devil worship, and the odor of French fries. One night, his dark prayers are answered (via email) and he gets an invite to his favorite Satanist’s home: Bardok the Great, obviously. Upon arriving at Bardok’s (Combs) abode, Onyx and other “winners” kick off their eventful evening.
Quirky may not be a strong enough description, but for those that can buy into Andrew Bowser’s type of humor and his Onyx character, there is a lot of fun to be had here. The plot is a bit zany, but the low budget goes pretty far. Jokes land pretty well most of the time, and the creativity runs at top level throughout the runtime.
The movie’s effects are pretty solid for the constrained and kick-started budget. The cast and crew must have had a good time with the madness presented on set. While it’s no masterpiece, and a bit cheesy, the bottom line is for me this one was pretty fun. Lean into the silliness, and self-deprecation and humor, and enjoy the meatloaf.
How best to rate this one? I dunno… I dunno… I dunno…
