Tragedy Girls Ver3

Tragedy Girls features two cutesy best friend cheerleader high school girls, obsessed with social media followers, ex-boyfriends, popularity, and reaching their ultimate goal: to be the best of all serial killers. Sadie (Hildebrand) and McKayla (Shipp) bounce through the school hallways carefree, looking to hit a new goal of followers for their online show by prom.

The girls are looking to boost their online true crime Vlog which focuses on spicey crimes and serial/spree murderers. They work with class video editing geek Jordan (Quaid) to spice up their shots, and then deploy their ulterior plan to become iconic horror legends.

As the blood flies and the online posts speculate, eventually the girls are successful in finding fame as it hits them like bolts of lightning. Between this and their hostage local serial killer Lowell (Durand), the plot will twist and moods will shift.

A rift begins to form between the pair, as their followers and boys become too much of a force in their lives. Will the girls reconcile, and kill enough people to kick off their serial killer careers before college?! Sharpening of the pace and tone could have brought even more out of the script, but overall, with its short runtime there isn’t a lot of time for the story to drag and the movie zips along.

Tragedy Girls can definitely be a funny satire, but it is also spattered with blood, guts and gore, so horror first, comedy second. The stars of the show do a stellar job as both cute high school girls and horrific forces of death. The script is pretty solid and mostly maintains the tough balance of tension and humor. There are both fun jokes as well as darkly comic scenarios, and if you can handle a few buckets of blood then spend time with the Tragedy Girls.
