Narrow Margin Poster

This remake of a 50s flick (The Narrow Margin) doesn’t break into new territory for story, but is a nice quick thrill ride with a decent cast. After Los Angeles District Attorney Robert Caulfield (Hackman) realizes there is a witness to a mafia boss murder, he tracks her (Archer) down to a remote cabin in Canada.

Unfortunately for Caulfield, there are other nefarious characters also looking for her, and the pair are thrust into the crosshairs of danger, having to get to L.A. alive. They duck bullets and explosions, looking for any way south into the U.S.

The story really isn’t new, especially being a remake itself, and it is not as pulse pounding as some other thrillers, but is still worth the time. As the bullets fly, mostly our heroes evade and hide, as opposed to fighting back action-hero style. That being said Hackman is a very solid leading man, with Archer as a believable and terrified witness.

The short runtime keeps the pacing tight, and it is competently directed. Narrow Margin should be considered for those looking for early 90s thrillers, or anyone who wants a quick fun brush with danger.

I have not seen the original, but will likely track it down!
