An absolutely wonderful book adaptation, Edge of Tomorrow, often called Live.Die.Repeat due to confusing marketing, this is probably the best Sci-Fi film in decades and is an absolute winner all around. News clips play out dire headlines. An invader force is crumbling cities left and right, pushing humanity to the brink.
Then… super soldiers. Dubbed “The Angel of Verdun,” Rita Vrataski (Blunt) was able to kill hundreds of these alien “mimics” on just her first day of combat. Will this current mission be the breakthrough needed? Operation Downfall is coming up, and Major William Cage (Cruise) is pressing it up big time. Meeting microphones and talking is what he is used to.
Unfortunately for him, this time Cage is roped into actually participating in the mission directly. General Brigham (Gleeson) ships him off to the coast to be on the beach when the first wave hits France. This should be something to tell the grandchildren, and with minimal excitement. Cage is not even into this idea, and protests, declining even and laughing it off. Brigham does not budge.
As Cage hits the unit he will deploy with, things start to get shaky. Master Sergeant Farell (Paxton) and the squad do what they can to ready Cage for deployment, but nothing can prepare him for the actual beach which is full of intense Sci-Fi action which blows up the screen with full force. Mechanical armor and quad blaster guns may not cut it…
If you are lucky enough to not know what is in store for you, or even if you DO know but have not seen this film, then do yourself a favor and check it out. This movie fucking rocks. The plot is great and the action and execution are wonderful. The entertainment value is high. No real notes on this one, it was a pleasant surprise and flat-out blast.
