House Party Poster

Feel the grooves as a dimly lit and smokey house dance party hits the screen during the opening credits. Shit, the roof just blew off! What a dope time. Oh, it was just a dream. Chrisopher Robinson Jr. (Reid) aka Kid, wakes up to a heinous alarm clock, as well as his Pops (Harris) yelling at him about breakfast.

After shower time, hair styling time, and a bit of grooving, it is breakfast and school time. At lunch, a heated discussion about important issues arises between Kid’s friends. Peter Martin (Martin) aka Play, is throwing a house party, and is already trying to get Bilal (Lawrence) to DJ it. Kid just wants to lay his dope rhymes. Will this attract the fly honies like Sidney (Campbell) and Sherane (Johnson)? We’ll see at 10:30 that night…

Everything seems perfect, but too bad Kid keeps getting into beef with fully grown men bullies Stab (Anthony), Pee-Wee (Lou) and Zilla (B-Fine).. Uh oh, this may get Kid on punishment from Pops… but what about the party?! Dilemma!! Will he miss the time of the year?

House Party is a good old school party time. It is funny, joyful, fun, ridiculous, energetic and charismatic. The characters are a good hang, and there are some clever lines sprinkled into the exaggerated comedy. The runtime is short and the direction is sound, so come get some jokes and hip hop.

Yo, I will break my leg off up in your ass so far that you will be shitting sneaker for a month.

I don’t remember liking the House Party II sequel that much, nor the 2025 remake. I haven’t seen the multiple other sequels. Stick with the OG and have a good time.
