After a Tales from the Darkside television series ran from 1983-1988, the movie version his screens with a larger scale anthology of terror. Creepshow found success in the 80s, and a TV show was envisioned. When it happened however, it was under the name Tales from the Darkside. As this movie hit theaters, it was unofficially considered to be the next Creepshow sequel, or part 3, as 2 had come out years prior in 1987. An actual Creepshow 3 was finally made years later in 2006, but I have not heard stellar things.
As far as Tales from the Darkside: The Movie goes, Betty (Harry) goes home with her groceries, and when home the imprisoned child she plans on eating decides to try and elongate his life by telling her a multitude of stories. Bring on the chills!
The tales are dark, gory and/or humorous affairs of horror, and are all full of good actors with some fun ideas. Nothing is too scary or oppressive, and the stories entertain mostly as intended through the short runtime.
As with Creepshow, and Creepshow 2, the viewer probably has a good idea of what to expect even if all of the stories are totally wild or new to them. The film covers mummies, felines, murder demons, curses, crappy people, and more.
