Scenic hillsides. Cheerful music. A gentle breeze. The baaahhhhhing of sheep. What a nice time it is in rural New Zealand. A farmer, Oliver Oilfield, and his boy Henry and friend Tucker drive around on ATVs to corral the sheep with the help of a herding dog. The older Oilfield brother, with leg in brace, watches Henry angrily. Mostly the sheep comply with the commands. What a life. It’s great until the total asshole Angus plays a cruel trick on Henry, and separately there is a tragic accident. These issues leave Henry scarred, and absolutely terrified of sheep.
Years later, as an older Henry (Meister) returns to the family farm to sort some business with Angus (Feeney), simultaneously, activist hippies Grant (Driver) and Experience (Mason) look to quietly photograph genetic modifications at a nearby company experiment site. Blowing his own surveillance plan up, Grant charges clunkily and grabs a large vial of some disgusting looking chunky liquid, which was in a carrier marked “For Disposal.” While escaping from chasing scientists, Grant falls and the vial breaks, springing free a small mutant baby sheep thingy which naturally bites the shit outta him.
As Henry and Angus reconcile money, the past and brother shit, parties start colliding as the mutant baby sheep thingy starts infecting herds of fully grown sheep in the area. Well, uh oh. If you don’t fear sheep now, you will.
Black Sheep is a pretty funny and dark B-Movie comedy with some clever lines, some low brow humor, hokey acting and a very silly plot. It is gruesome with over-the-top gore, but mostly in an entertaining way, and has a very quick runtime so it does not overstay its welcome. As dangerous sheep start to bahhhh in fury, can these ridiculous people stay alive? Grab a handful of mountain oysters and enjoy the show.
