Based on a true story, Extra Ordinary is just that extra. Why don’t we see ghosts every day? Well, maybe we do, but most hauntings are so small, they go unnoticed. As a video tape series plays, a volume from “The Talents” explores how cheese may contain ghosts, which is why you may get nightmares after eating it and going to sleep.
As daughters visit their father’s grave, Rose Dooley (Higgins) apologizes for slaughtering him. She’s really sorry. Her sister Sailor (Chandler) says come off it. Rose takes off in her auto, which advertises her driving school. Her students only do so well at some parts, like parking.
At home after work, she immediately takes her pants off, gets yogurt and sits on her bouncy yoga ball in the corner of the kitchen, feasting. She listens to her phone messages. There are requests for her “talents” but she stabs a beef lasagna instead, until… there is a request from a man named Martin Martin (Ward) who is having haunting troubles.
His wife Bonnie who passed leaves him nice messages, and helps him pick outfits for the day. His daughter Sarah is over it however. She is ready for her pops to move on, or she is moving out. As hauntings, musicians, sacrifices, possessions and more hit the scene, Rose has to use all of her family “talents” to help the townsfolk, and herself.
Extra Ordinary is a funny, odd and sweet paranormal ghost comedy, with a hint of romance. There is also a hint of blood and guts, buuut mostly this movie remains true to its fun comedy roots. It deals with some elements of reality, however has some funny spins on most everything presented, and plenty of supernatural focus. Jokes are clever and a bit silly, but the topics at hand leave plenty of room for inventive comedy. Well-acted and put together, this is a good time with some ghostly pals.
Grab a juice box, put on your Cosmic Woman record, pass your driving exam and let’s hunt some ghosts.
