Idiocracy Poster

Idiocracy tells a tale as old as time: a government experiment gone wrong. As average volunteers Joe (Wilson) and Rita (Rudolph) are selected for a top-secret experiment to cryogenically freeze people, they are accidentally forgotten. While they were of average intelligence and ability in the year 2005, when awakened 500 years later, they find that society has degraded at an extremely accelerated pace, with only idiots breeding.

Joe and Rita wind up easily, easily the smartest people in their new world. While one may assume this immediately works out for the best, one may be underestimating the stupidity of humanity. I mean, just look around at reality.

While this movie really only has a few jokes and most of them are running gags, it has just enough intelligence and satire mixed into the dumb comedy to reach the ending. Yes, it likely could have been shortened to a few amazing skits, but in going for a full feature they did get to get a lot of mileage out of some situations and multiple callbacks.

The cast plays dumb well, and most have fun with the material going all in. While all of the humor won’t land for every viewer, some of the dumb jokes are pretty funny. If you feel like you have brain cells to burn, check out Idiocracy.
