Prisoner Frank White (Walken) is released and picked up by a limo. The gates clamber shut behind his ride out. As he reintroduces himself into the community, the bullets start to fly in anticipation. The streets are rife with crime and drugs, the grime and dirt not a huge improvement over the prison.
Across town, cold soda drinking Jimmy Jump (Fishburne) makes a deal, while Test Tube (Buscemi) ensures product quality. Jump takes the deal, and delivers a suitcase with a heap of cash to drug king Tito. Or is it really cash? Long live the king.
As White, Jump and other heavy hitters like Lance (Esposito) reunite their crew, it’s not but dance parties and fly ladies. Once the Columbians are run outta town, territory is up for grabs and money starts stacking. White picks up where he left off, back from the dead and the drug game fitting like a glove. Yet… his ambitions are even higher. He knows what the city needs and he wants to deliver. Will he make it to the top, or will rival gangs and obsessive cops bring him crashing to the ground first?
King of New York is a good gangster flick about money, power and consequences. The good group of actors in the film all have a fun time with their roles, especially White and Jump. The runtime is fairly light and pacing is fast enough so most looking for a good 90s flick should be appeased.
