Narc is a high energy undercover cop drama. Nick Tellis (star Jason Patric) is lured back to the streets to help the force resolve the murder of a fellow narcotics officer. After having a traumatic experience pull him from his cover, Tellis finds himself looking into his former world and former contacts, looking for any new leads in the cold case.
As the story winds, clues pile up and conflicting information appears to be the only information. With “help” from an aggressive cop friend of the deceased (Liotta), the pair scour the streets looking for resolve.
This is a typical cop movie in many ways, which to me is not a negative as I like the genre. Additionally, it is stylistically shot, and authentic in dialogue and character actions, while dealing with the life trauma that undercover work brings to those officers involved and their families.
The film is a quality production from front to back, and likely was completed on a minimal budget. Viewers may not love a few of the “shakycam” scenes, but they do add energy and throw the viewer into a sense of being the midst of the action. Overall, this cop movie is worth a watch despite a darker edge to the story elements.
