Since before recorded time its orbit was so large that no one knew of its existence, however the citizens of Earth will get an extra Christmas present this year as its presence returns in Night of the Comet. Come join the celebration!
As the loons gather in the streets partying, ready to watch this once in a lifetime event, tunes are bopping, booze is flowing, moods are good and mullets are out in packs. As hottie Regina Belmont (Stewart) crushes high scores at the movie theater arcade, her annoying boss yaps at her to get back to work. The nerve.
Eventually she agrees, having only hit 3rd in the high scores, though she holds all other places other than a new name in 6th. She’s pissed! Who the hell is this “DMK”???
Across town, Regina’s sister Samantha (Maroney) snacks and watches TV, having just had a throw down with stepmother and resident asshole Doris (Farrell), who had expected her to serve chips and dips at the neighborhood comet party. Again, the nerve!!!
Then comes the lightshow and comet sweeping by Earth. The next morning brings a new world with red skies, and the two Belmont sisters from the valley have a new main problem in their lives: nutso insane cannibal shit-talking zombies! Though, wait, I guess all zombies are cannibals, so just normal talking zombies.
Night of the Comet is a solid 80s Sci-Fi horror comedy with some dope girls kicking ass. It is partly an homage to even older Sci-Fi classics and is self-aware at times. Yes, this movie is a bit goofy, but some of that is on purpose. Mostly it is a good enough time of silliness, gore and girls that just wanna have fun, with uzis. Watch out for Doris’ right hook, she might chip a tooth.
