Nothing To Lose Poster

This oddball “buddy comedy” features successful businessman Nick Beam (Robbins) walking in on his wife (Preston) sleeping with his boss (McKean). This crushes his entire world, and he immediately turns and leaves instead of confronting the pair. He is so distraught that as he drives down the street he barely even registers when thief Terrance (Lawrence) jumps in his car with a gun demanding Nick’s money and wheels.

Much to Terrance’s dismay and confusion and anger, Nick takes off pedal to the metal and out of Los Angeles into the desert. The suburban swerves and bounces on the way out of town, and Nick tosses his wallet out along the way as to not give it to the would-be robber. Nick’s sole focus of his wife’s infidelity has left him the shell of a man, who takes the pair all the way to Arizona.

From here, the pair start talking, and an odd bond begins to form, despite plenty of anguish and frustration. Regardless of coming from completely different paths, the men do find plenty of common ground. Things get even more complicated when another pair of dangerous gentlemen enter the scene (McGinley and Esposito).

Mostly this is a fun buddy comedy that goes to pretty wacky places, but has enough heart that the sincere moments don’t come off as too cheesy. The bit roles are played well, and the story is just good enough to drive the quick film along. Enjoy the antics, and tell that “unique” statue to watch out.
