Two dollars for some vegetables at a farmer’s market is a bangin ass deal, as nice dude Ned Rochlin (Rudd) lets the rhubarb, tomatoes and more fly outta the baskets as people roll through his Camp Hill Farm shack. Far out. Officer Washburn then stops by for some weed, since it has been a hard week. Ned says no but is convinced since the man asks nicely. Fine… Ned hooks it up, and Washburn even insists on paying. Okay, I guess it’ll be 20 bucks then... Kaboom! An arrest is made. Poor Ned.
Ned’s sister Miranda (Banks) lives in an apartment in the city and cannot fix her pilot light on her own. Neighbor Jeremy (Scott) is down to fix it, even leaving his date, who is in bed with him. Ned’s other sister Natalie (Deschanel) is a stand-up comic who is cheered on by her girlfriend Cindy (Jones). Ned’s other other sister Liz (Mortimer) is trying to wow her bored douche salad husband Dylan (Coogan).
Meanwhile, Ned finally gets out of jail from his small-time pot bust, due to early release from being such an ideal inmate. He gets back to his farm and with his girlfriend Janet (Hahn), or shit, now she is with Billy (Miller)… bummer dude. He was at the farm for three years and this breakup even takes Willie Nelson, his dog. Woof. Well, where does he go now?
Back home at his mother’s (Knight) home, a family dinner with all the sisters gives Ned the group idea that he needs to get a job. His Parole Officer Omar Coleman (Brown) will at least help him with advice to avoid the same mistakes in the future. Will Ned fit in with his siters lives, or ruin them with his genius antics?
Our Idiot Brother is a harmless but funny family drama with a stacked cast of good people doing their own partially neurotic characters. Such is life. At least Ned’s mom is nice and supportive. The family’s interactions are entertaining and the sisters do their best to help Ned get his shit in order, family first and all.
