Coming out the same year as the first Captain America movie, Chris Evans took his shield to a smaller budget flick, playing real life lawyer and addict, Mike Weiss. When a single mom and trauma nurse Vicky Rogers (Shaw) is jabbed by a syringe while trying to draw blood from a combative patient, she unfortunately contracts AIDS. Vicky contacts young lawyers Danziger (Kassen) and Weiss (Evans), who have opened their own law firm and she is directed to.

What she brings them is a case of a patent existing for a cheap and reliable retractable syringe, which would keep any future accidents like hers from happening in a chaotic hospital workplace. Despite this patent existing and the product being called a “safety needle” the hospitals will not adopt it. She has found that frontline professionals face situations like this all the time, yet the large network of hospitals are not doing anything to enhance their equipment.

While Danziger and Weiss initially are looking at a negligence settlement for her versus the hospital, as well as a large and much needed payday, nurse Rogers is not concerned with money. She just wants other workers to avoid her fate, and be safe, especially since a viable product exists.

Mike dives right in, focusing his smart mind on tactics and key pieces of evidence, however he battles his ongoing demons to party with hard drugs and pretty girls. Mike finds however, that it’s more than just balancing late bills, angry business partners and hangovers when it comes to gigantic medical corporations which don’t like to lose money or deal with price fixing complaints.

While this movie is not quite as sharp as some of the other popular courtroom dramas, it brings plenty to the table. The cast is well-rounded and bring all the characters dimension while elevating the story’s tensions.
