Sew Torn Movie Poster

A low budget affair filmed in Switzerland, Sew Torn is quite an odd and fun crime caper. Seamstress Barbara Duggen (Connolly) took over from her mother who passed away, trying to keep the family business going before unfortunately being forced to close the doors soon. She has very little business left on the books, and feels sad to be letting down her mother’s memory. The thread is all that is left of her, and she doesn’t want to leave it. The store is everything.

She has a 12PM appointment, which she has forgotten about since it’s mostly all that’s left, so she rushes to meet the cranky Grace Vessler (Goodall) who needs a wedding dress fixed promptly before the event. Grace hops in her tiny car, with gigantic thread spool on the back for advertising, as well as business branding decals. Grace is unhappy she is late, and unhappy she takes longer than her mother would have.

In fact, Grace is pretty much a big-time bitch, so Barbara can’t help but stick her with a needle and “accidentally” drop the button down the floor vent. Now she must rush back to the store for a spare. On the way however, enters a bonkers story. As she is puttering along home, she comes across a crazy crime scene. She briefly considers her options, and how they may take her life depending on each choice.

What will she do? How will it all play out? Why does everything have to do so much with sewing?! Well, it’s her trade, and she clearly knows it and is a massive over-thinker. Welcome to a very creative crime caper, full of silliness and twists. It is unlikely you will guess exactly what will happen, and it is ever-entertaining. Who knew the world of mobile seamstresses was so dangerous.

Sew Torn is a pretty unique crime tale, which has a lot of fun and will keep you wondering throughout. It is always entertaining, and likely was a small budget affair, however does not feel that way. It is a full feature version of a short film previously released. Despite the Switzerland filming location, the movie is fully in English.
