Charlie MacKenzie (Myers) orders a large cappuccino while hanging out with Tony Giardino (LaPaglia) who dresses like a pimp. Tony is an undercover cop trying to look hip. It is open mic night at a local San Francisco hipster club. Charlie is going to do a poem about Sherry, an ex-flame. Tony is not excited.
Charlie always finds a reason to break up with all the girls of his past when they get too close. Like Pam, who smelled of beef vegetable soup. Charlie hits the mic to the snaps and jazz riffs to drop his spoken word poem. He just wants his cat back!
Charlie lives in the city living the good life of, uhhh, poetry, and then goes to a butcher for haggis since his parents Stuart (also Myers) and May (Fricker) are extremely Scottish. At the shop he eyes hottie Harriet (Travis) who happens to slice meats and churn butter.
Will Charlie ever ask out Harriet? Well, the movie has to go somewhere eventually, but the real promise of the story is with the background subplot of a nationwide killer Mrs. X, the honeymoon axe murderer with at least 3 victims. Or at least, this is per the tabloids that May cannot put down. A hint of mystery and danger is a nice addition to the silly comedy.
While all jokes may not land, and it is a tad dated, So I Married an Axe Murderer remains a decent comedy worth its short runtime. There are a bunch of good cameos in with the funny cast, and it is mostly harmless fun. Myers’ main character is usual for the actor, but he goes much more exaggerated with his accent fueled father.
Try the Garth Brooks juice diet and venture out with So I Married and Axe Murderer. Also, Fruit Loops are light and relatively high in fiber.
