The Sun Also Sets has just netted America’s Sweetheart Celeste Talbert (Field) her 12th daytime best actress award. Despite this success, Talbert’s life is spiraling out of control as her co-stars Montana Moorehead (Moriarty) and Ariel Maloney (Hatcher) have aims of replacing her. Hotshot studio plant producer David Barnes (Downey Jr.) is in the middle of the action trying to boost the ratings, save the show, and sleep with the teasing Montana.

As these parties collide, additional chaos is caused by bringing back an ex-flame of Celeste (both on film and in real life), whom she got fired 20 years prior. This man, Jeffrey Anderson (Kline), looks forward to repaying his former co-star back for the past.

On top of that, an excited girl looks to make her mark on the show, sneaking into the casting and winding up cast as a mute homeless girl. But… there is more to this young girl Lori (Shue) than meets the eye.

Soapdish is a very funny and silly look at daytime soap operas, infusing ridiculous comedic moments into an already outlandish production of a serial show. It’s both exaggerated and farcical, however that does not take away from the production as the end results are entirely entertaining. What makes it work is the fantastic cast; however, the writing is good enough to bring many clever jokes throughout every scene.

As life begins to imitate art, the lens blur increases and it’s hard to tell what is what, just like the studio heads want. Can you imagine the ratings!!
