This one… it’s a tougher one to explain. A Monkey (Conti) sits at a motel. Inside a motel room, a man, Roy Belvedere (Allen), takes items out of his shopping bag: a candle, a rope, a lighter. The candle is lit. The rope is tied around his neck, and he hangs it from the ceiling fan above. Roy feels like it’s his time to go, and lets the chair below fall to the side. The Monkey looks in through the window, and seeing this, rushes in.

Roy wakes up in his own van, with Monkey driving him out of town. He is confused. The Monkey needs to get to Colorado, drop herself off at the lake, and then Roy can have his van back. He’s doing Monkey a favor. This is also a flashback, as he is seen in an orange jumpsuit and is telling authorities about this story.

Roy however needs to get to his mother’s (Chambers) house. Monkey doesn’t think that’s appropriate yet. Roy tells Monkey that he needs to, since he sent her a suicide note, and wants to get there before the note does. She lives in Espinola, New Mexico.

So, here is a road trip comedy, with some really weird dialogue and things happening, all things considered. Roy winds up on a quest to get an expensive watch back from his father’s corpse, while Monkey reconciles with why they are inside a monkey costume at this point in their life. Things are peachy. Time to let these characters grow as they traverse the U.S. in a van.

I liked the vibe of this low budget and strange affair. The humor is very odd at times, and crude at others, but a lot of it lands despite the bizarre nature of this story. It is quite entertaining during its short runtime, and features a great song about holes. This will likely be a top banger on the charts someday. The actors do a serviceable job, and the film is pretty entertaining. It does cross a wide variety of topics. This is a strange romance, comedy and road trip type movie, but you will probably remember it.
