Trick ‘r Treat – 2007 – Horror, Comedy

Main Players: Anna Paquin; Brian Cox; Dylan Baker; Leslie Bibb
Trick ‘r Treat reflects multiple interwoven stories that jump from one to the next and back again to tell a cohesive Halloween tale, with many twists. Most stories bleed into others, as characters interact with one another, however are mostly focused on spinning their own yarn.
Not all is what it seems for this movie, nor does everything play out as expected. While this does have the typical horror elements, including buckets of blood, the turns that are taken in most all of the tales contained are pretty fun. There are some solid, yet morbid, comedic elements.
Stories are focused on Halloween parties, neighborhood kids getting candy, tricks being played on homeowners, stalking monsters and more. The cast has plenty of relative unknowns, and a few known in bit roles, but that adds to the atmosphere of Halloween horror and wonder. Acting, directing and writing are all well done, giving the fun stories a hint of reality despite some supernatural elements. The run-time is short, so it is akin to a quick sugary snack to intake.
Half of the fun of this film is being surprised by its curve balls in plot. Check this out in spooky October when you are ready to hit the streets for trick or treating, and remember, always check your candy!
