A bizarre and savage satire about current society, plus time travel, is presented in Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die. Bringing a clever, unique and interesting script along with some great actors and a veteran director, this film is quite well done and should keep you on your toes as you breathe it in.
The Man from the Future (Rockwell) appears in Norm’s Diner in a city at 10:10 PM. He is donning a strange plastic trenchcoat outfit, along with a beanie, some wires and other tube-like protrusions. He has an important message for the patrons inside. He is not robbing the place, but he is from the future, and all of this… goes horribly wrong. Horribly wrong!! Most people just stay attached to their cell phones, ignoring his loud ravings and rantings, and warnings about social media.
Where their night will take them is up for anyone to guess. The erosion of critical thinking due to reliance on phones and AI has left most everyone without any useful tools. This Man blames everyone from this time for being complicit in this decline. But… thankfully he is there to set it all right! Yay? Time for an unpredictable journey of ridiculousness…
Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is quirky and odd, in the best of ways and covers a lot of ground. Its observations on where humanity is heading are both hilarious and depressing, as they are fairly accurate. The actors all play their roles straight, which is better than an extreme exaggeration, considering the script is mocking many of the current societal norms. Letting the script do the exaggerating as opposed to flamboyant acting was a wise choice as it really lets the absurdity of present-day antics all sink in further.
Whether or not humanity can be saved from its current course is a question, but maybe we’ll get our own Man from the Future to get the gears turning someday. With top notch acting and directing and a creative script, this film should be seen and enjoyed by film lovers. While it may run a touch long, I was always entertained. Overall, this film is best to just strap in and enjoy instead of researching too much about it, as going in blind is probably the best plan.
