The high stakes world of jewel heists and cat burglaries is put on full display in Cat Fight, which also brings into the story a feline element. Despite it being about people, it may as well have been about furry footed criminal kitties.
Story:
The story is the usual tale of crime syndicates and a possible death of the main cat, ahem character Felix Lamarr’s grandmother Kitty Midnight when she is potentially exploded by an evil mystery figure Schrodinger. Midnight herself was a legendary burglar and despite retirement still held many prized goods and ties to a criminal troupe. Felix himself works alone always, as a lone alley cat out on the hunt.
After Kitty’s apartment blows up, Felix goes on the run to figure out what is going on, and who is out to get him. Enter action, adventure, international locales, plot twists, team-ups, betrayals, treasure, traps, danger, fistfights and hairballs.
The series is short and full of cat themes and cat-themed characters obviously, but it’s still a cohesive heist-ish, spy-ish type story. There is plenty of exposition to flesh out the background of the world, as well as introduce a plethora of characters, and slip in cat puns. Even if you are a dog person, there is plenty to like here.
The storyline is fairly quick, and while some things may not be an utter shock plot wise, it is still a lot of fun to read regardless. Fans of spy stuff or heist tales will have a fun journey here, and cat lovers will get a bonus with some silliness on top.
Art:
The art is fun and chaotic with all sorts of hidden nods to felines, as well as actual cats scattered across pages. It has a unique and nice style to it, which fully fits the feline adventure, and brings enough seriousness and whimsy to the many scenes and settings.
