A short series, Godfell takes the reader to  war-torn land Kerethim, full of ancient cultures of men and monsters, and then a literal dead god drops out of the sky. This gigantic being’s corpse then becomes the stage of the next period of life below, spurring new culture clashes and troubles. How will veteran soldier / raging animalistic gigantic axe-wielding berserker Zanzi Vuiline fit into the mix? Find out!

Story:

As she looks to return home after a seemingly endless years+ long war, unstoppable warrior Zanzi Viuline runs across a smaller and weaker woman Neth, and mercifully allows her to travel with on the journey after some deliberations. The pair work their way across the lands, however wind up hitting God’s corpse.

As it is the best way through, and likely the point of the whole series, the pair explores the interior workings of the dead God’s body, and how different cultures have made their presences known inside the deities’ many internal chambers.

While the story could likely be paced a bit faster to get through it all, the exploration of a dead God and an internal war inside the body is quite interesting, and would be similar to a battle by microscopic organisms when any gigantic hulk from above dies and starts its decomposition.

Adding war, magic and fantasy to this dead God idea only seems natural, and fits pretty well. Does it go as far as it could have? Well, maybe not, but it ends in a pretty wild place with other future ideas possible if this series sells well enough.

Overall, the story is fairly interesting in concept, even if one doesn’t love the execution. Personally, I found it all pretty solid and worth the short trip through the six issues.

Art:

The art is pretty cool and fits the almost mythological type of journey well. It shows motion and violence well, while relaying a classic feel, almost as if on an ancient Greek scroll.

Reasons to Read:

This series was good enough for sure, despite its wild concept not really pushing the story into any bonkers territory. It has a classic feel to it all, as a long journey home from a gladiator after war seems natural, and adding fantasy elements on top is a nice touch. The characters are good enough, and the concepts are interesting and explored a bit.

Comparisons below are not really quite right, but similar themes or adventures in some way.
