911 Emergency answers a call. A voice explains that they are Seo Yeong-cheol (Koo) who works at Chains BIO. Today at their offices in the Doongwoori Building he plans to run an experiment. There is a large map of pictures and locations identified on the wall as the speaker continues. This is a highly contagious bio terror attack that is about to commence. Well, shit.
A pathogen has been tested in the man’s body personally, and he found it to be a success. He is the only vaccine left that could stop the outbreak. As the sun rises the following day, things appear to be normal. It is the Chains BIO conference, and the CEO Kang Woo-cheol is giving a speech. Employees and ex-spouses Kwon Se-jeong (Jun) and Han Gyu Seong (Go) bicker a bit and find their table to listen. Han has remarried at least, but still is concerned with Kwon’s wellbeing.
As Kang Woo-cheol explains a new company product, a yellow slime mold “Physarum polycephalum” has been designed to optimize the direction of its growth towards food and will be used in organic semiconductors to follow specific chip patterns and improve the production. Next, the chips can help damaged nerves in the body carry information. A paralyzed rat was given the use of its legs again. Sounds like a total win! Nothing can go wrong!
As things go wrong, this slime gets wild, and bad things happen. We meet some new characters and deadly events spread through the story as if a fast-acting yellow slime mold hungry for food. Ready for action, suspense, thrills and chills? Hit up Colony.
Since the world has already processed a billion zombie films, does Colony offer anything new and different? Honestly, yeah, it gives an interesting new spin on the genre, and features a high-quality presentation. When its slime mold starts driving, people start getting nasty, and hungry. But wait, there’s more! Come find out what!
Actors deliver the right emotions during the chaotic and tense events they are stuck in. Intelligence levels are appropriate and this heightens the tension and experience. This is due to a decent script also, which introduces these new ideas and uses them pretty well. Some of it feels a bit familiar regardless, but Colony is a nice addition to the horror and zombie type genre.
