The Return of the Living Dead – Review

The events in this film are all true. July 3, 1984, 5:30 Eastern Time. Two men get ready to lock up before the 4^th of July weekend. New employee Freddy (Mathews) needs to deliver two adult skeletons with perfect teeth. Once crated up they are ready for shipping. Supervisor Frank (Karen) gives him the full rundown.

Where do the skeletons come from? India. How come, and why do so many have perfect teeth? Well viewer, you are only scratching the surface here. Don’t fool around, you’ll learn it.

As Freddy is introduced to the cadavers for ballistic purposes, he freaks out a bit more. Across the city, a group of kids looks for the raddest party. These are Freddy’s friends. He knows where the festivities are at, so they go to pick him up from work, if they can stand to wait until he gets off.

Frank explains to Freddy how the movie 'Night of the Living Dead (1968)' is based on a true story. A chemical made those bodies jump around as if alive. It was sprayed on marijuana and studied by the army, who threatened the film maker to change the details.

Not only that… but those bodies from the event in the 60s were shipped to their warehouse, and were below where they sat right now! Freddy starts tripping when Frank offers him a visit to the basement to check ‘em out. Fuckin’ great choice.

The Return of the Living Dead is a funny, spoof-y and schlock-filled zombie tale filled with 80s tunes and in your face gory effects. As the rhythmic beats pulse and zombies get hungry, you know the night you are in for.

While the acting may be a bit hammy, the script was clearly designed to be more fun than scary. If you want silly, weird, punk, gory zombie vibes you have come to the right place. Hit up Resurrection Cemetery and watch out for the bodies. It’s party time!!

I have not seen Return of the Living Dead Part II or Return of the Living Dead 3, or any of its other direct-to-video sequels.
