Baskin Xlg

After a very strange and ominous opening scene, we meet five police officers who dine at a local restaurant on a dark evening. These men are head cop Remzi (Kuyucu), and his squad Yavuz (Bayrak), Arda (Kasal), Seyfi (Yakut) and Apo (Dokgöz). They are unaware that a bucket of “meat” was just delivered by a heavy-footed cloaked individual through the back door. They are instead too focused on discussing gambling odds and big payouts for football. As they share stories and insults, it’s hard to like them much. Seyfi has an understandable headache, considering the other men.

As their meals are delivered, shit gets serious. The cops are total assholes and make it known to the restaurant staff, while Seyfi has a strange meltdown in the bathroom. The group takes off to a call about some other officers in distress in the town of Inceagac, and they need backup. Now things get even weirder… Inceagac has a local reputation for bizarre happenings, and Seyfi is on edge again.

The dark atmosphere on dimly lit roads leads to unnerving moments and disastrous results. Enter nightmare insanity, and graphic gore. What will the cops’ night bring to them as they stumble into a strange town and creepy events?

Baskin is a fairly nasty little horror show. Unlikable characters however relieve most of any possible tension, as it is hard to give a shit about the cops. Despite this, the ideas presented are fairly bonkers and the terror reflected within is memorable.

The film is quite well presented and features some very well-done shots, as well as realistic and graphic moments of horror mixed into dreamlike terror. The plot isn’t that bad, and it is quite the descent into madness. Baskin is well acted despite the edgy nature of most all of the main characters. Its uneasy atmosphere feels oppressive in the right ways for the story. This one has some gore and fucked up situations, so only seek it out if you can handle that.
