Milk & Serial – Review

Online video makers and pranksters Marshall, aka Milk (Barker), who drinks shit loads of milk, and Steve, aka Seven (Tomlinson), craft events in hopes to go viral and get famous. This short (hour long) and simple film holds plenty of reason to watch however, despite the fact that no one really likes these types of attention seeking people.

It’s Milk’s birthday, so Seven has roped in his acting buddy to help him with a big surprise for the party. He’s going to fake a violent event, and shock the shit out of Milk, while capturing it all on film. This is an intricate prank which involves some serious impact if pulled off properly…

Milk & Serial is an hour long ‘found footage’ type flick which spins a few events on their head and delivers some seriously devious psychological thrills by the end. While it’s small budget, the story didn’t really need anything more. Yes, larger contract actors could have been involved, but the lesser-known cast helps deliver some sense of reality to the picture, despite a bit of wonky acting.

In general, this is well crafted and includes some unsettling ideas and behavior. The limited budget does not really slow it down, and it is short enough to zip through. If you enjoy disturbing material, then dive in as this delivers some dark psychological terror.

In a nice real-life twist, Curry Barker and Cooper Tomlinson have worked as a comedy duo making sketches for YouTube. This project was a nice deviation from that, and eventually led to the feature length movie Obsession.
