Asia Reaves (Beetz) and her little sister Maria are on the run from their abusive father on a dark and stormy night. As the twilight turns eventfully violent, things don’t work out in the best way possible for most any of the characters.
A decade later and Asia is looking for a job, finding one at a New York City hotel. After a quick interview with owner Lily Woodhouse (Arquette) she settles into a room, ready to learn the rooms and get to cleaning. But… is there more going on than what there seems? There certainly appears to be eyes in her vents and strange people watching her every move.
Also, what happened over the last 10 years?! One thing is certain, wherever you think the plot is going, you are probably wrong, unless you have been spoiled. Come find out what the hell is underway in this building, and then get shocked a few times over.
They Will Kill You is an all-out splatter and action fest with some pretty wild plot concepts that are executed fairly well. The story is actually somewhat basic when all is said and done, but the plot is unfolded nicely and tidbits of reality are doled out bit by bit keeping it all fresh.
Zazie Beetz is great in the main role and performs the stunts admirably, while the surrounding actors hold their own in the bloody merry go round of a plot. Direction and special effects are strong, and the energy levels are high. The pacing is fast as it is a fairly short film, and it keeps its entertainment levels at the top until the end.
This shit is deeper than you can imagine.
